Why was I not introduced to actual yoga sooner?!

Why does downward facing dog sound so dirty but feel so good?!

Why did I wait until the last semester of my senior year to take this class?!



This heart-thumping, sweat-loving cardio junkie has been converted to a yoga believer in just one class.

How did this happen?

Well, it’s quite simple you see. I walked into the studio, got into shavasana and was sold. Heck, the rest of the class was just an added bonus.

I’ve always been aware of the benefits of yoga but to be honest, I’ve never really taken the time to try it. When I think of a workout, I think running or lifting or basically anything that’s going to leave me absolutely exhausted by the time I’m finished.

But yoga is just… different. And I kind of like it. (And trust me, I understand it’s going to get MUCH harder… I’m looking forward to it. Smile)

Obviously I’m a very much a beginner and have a LOT to learn. I mean, come on. I’ll be honest. I don’t know a sun salutation from warrior 3098123098. But I’m totally up for learning. And let’s face it, after 18 years in school, I’m good at learning.

For those of you that practice yoga, what are your thoughts on it? I actually have an assignment due for my class on Thursday and one of the questions is “what does yoga mean?”. So, let me turn this around—

What does yoga mean to you? Has it greatly impacted your life one way or another or is it just something you do to get in a good workout?

I’m interested to see your responses. After one class I can honestly say I’m way more relaxed than I was before I went in and that my friends, is a good thing.

So… 7 things about myself, eh?

1. I attribute my positive attitude and outlook on life to Jason Mraz. He’s taught me more through his music and words than anyone I’ve ever met. Really. Smile

2. I’ve been blogging since I was 15 years old. I started out with a Livejournal account and just recently made the switch to WordPress. (Any other old LJ-ers out there?!)

3. One of the coolest moments (or cheesiest, whichever you prefer) of my life was getting up on stage in New Orleans in front of 100+ people and singing “Sweet Caroline”. And to think I use to be shy. Winking smile 

4. Another moment that makes the top coolest moments of my life list? Seeing the Red Sox play in Fenway. Yeah, it was just as awesome as it sounds.

5. I absolutely LOVE going out on the weekends and being social. I haaaaate being alone for long periods of time!

6. I’m a firm believer in fate, especially when it comes to my future occupation. And at this point I’m really hoping that fate believes in me too.

7. When I was in high school, I absolutely hated running. HATED it. And now I can’t imagine my life without it. Funny how things change, huh?

There you have it.

I’m still fairly new to the blogger-world but here are the 10 I’ve got.  (Some of your blogs I literally just started reading yesterday and already love, love, LOVE so I hope you don’t think I’m a creep for adding you to this list already Open-mouthed smile)

    I am so with you on seeing the Red Sox play in Fenway! I got to go last summer on my birthday! (July 4)
    I hated running in high school too but now I love it! Who knew we had so much in common! (Oh, I’m also an old LJer and fairly new to the blog world. The hits just keep coming. 😀 lol)

      I haven’t quite made it to hot yoga yet! Tragically most people around where I’m at in VA don’t even know what yoga is to begin with. :/ But it’s definietly something I want to try sooooon! I’ve heard so many good things about it!

    I love your seven things! I want to do yoga more but I am soooo unflexible. I don’t think I can touch my toes!

      Yeah, I’m so not flexible at all either. haha. My boot camp/aerobics instructor has been trying to get me to take this class for the past year and I finally got around to doing it and really love it so far! It’s definitely challenging for me but totally worth it. 🙂

    I love yoga but I am not good about going to hot yoga. I am not a big fan of humidity so it drives me crazy.

    I am also a hugeee believer in fate!

    I LOVE Yoga!! My favourite session has to be when I was on holiday in Miami and did a yoga class on the beach. It was just me and the instructor so it was like a personal session and it really worked me. Lovely to do it by the sea. At the moment I have a knee injury from ballet so I have had to stop for the past month and a half which is frustrating. Hopefully I can get sorted soon though! Great blog 🙂

    I love yoga! I got in the habit of practicing it almost daily and then my work schedule got really crazy. I definitely have to get back to it!

    My fav is Bikram Yoga. I’d do it for real all time if it weren’t so expensive. I love it even though its soooo hard and takes going for a while to get back into it.

      Hmm, now that you mention it, I have no idea what type of yoga my class would even be considered. I need to figure that out. I’m definitely up for trying different types though. 🙂
